How to have a money date with yourself

Yes, you read that right!

Why not have a money date with yourself? This is a special time for you to go over your financial situation. It’s important to spend time thinking about what’s going on with our money in order to stay on track with our goals and dreams.

Make it official! Block off time in your calendar and commit to this exercise. Even if you only do it once a month or every three to six months, it will be effective. Get to know all your numbers and have a conversation with yourself about your goals and how you think you can make them happen. Lay everything out about your financials in front of you and start creating some goals. Try the S.M.A.R.T goal strategy.

You will feel a lot better about your financial situation afterwards and then it’s done! You’re free to avoid hard conversations with yourself about your finances until the next meeting you’ve scheduled with yourself.

Make your money date fun. Grab your favorite coffee or tea, pick up some flowers for yourself, pour a glass of wine, set the tone with some great music and enjoy this process. You are in control!

Don’t like this idea? What about finding a friend share on what's happening in your financial lives? It may be helpful to bounce ideas off of someone and hold each other accountable. You just have to keep it light while you focus on figuring your finances out. Or perhaps you could plan a little group date, the more the merrier!

The point is, having a money date with yourself is a form of self-care. Schedule it in like you would a massage or personal appointment. Keep it fun, set intentions and put in the effort. You may be surprised how much you like it!

Questions to ask yourself on your money date:

1.    How do I feel I am doing?

2.    What needs to change?

3.    What can I do now?

4.    Is there anyone that can help me?

5.    Where can I turn to get the information I need?

6.    Why do I want to become financially confident?

Remember, put it in your schedule, make it fun and start making changes happen!
